About Patrick
The Newfangled Lawyer is the creative hub or vessel of “me”. It is where I experiment and share relationship with others in the legal profession who are daring to do things differently. I do not shy away from deep questions and conversations, which is one of my super powers. I am ultra passionate about creating through conversation and deep contemplation.
I am here to smash the paradigm and reimagine what it means to practice law in a value-aligned way.
What People Are Saying
Most lawyers I meet who are intent on bringing a new lens to the practice of law have been so captured by the machine that 1) they don't recognize that they're still operating under the acceptable rules of the machine, and 2) typically think that the path toward happiness is changing yourself rather than anything about the machine.
This is understandable. Lawyers go through a lot of indoctrination (literally: that's what law school is, in the original sense of the word). We stop seeing artificial constructs as constructs and take these constructs as natural. Of course, you don't try to change nature; you work around it.
Patrick Patino sees all the seams, understands the blocking of a shot that makes it appear real, and sidesteps that whole game entirely. Patrick knows Kung Fu.
If you're looking for someone to help you imagine a way of practicing law that is designed for you, Patrick starts with YOU and then builds outward. He's one of the chillest people I know and somehow also one of the most intense people I know. Most "coaches" or advisors in the legal space will help you build the exact kind of firm you're trying to escape. They'll help you build an amazing version of that, but if you're looking to escape the machine, why build a smaller machine and cram yourself in there like a Little Ease?
Patrick is easy to work with, rooted in care, and has the coolest phone you've ever seen. Call him. No really, don't try to send him something requiring a smartphone. He's ascended to a different plane.
- Owen MPatrick Patino brings something rare to the legal profession: a genuine, grounded presence that clients and colleagues can immediately feel. As a fellow legal professional, what I admire most is his commitment to radical hospitality—he doesn’t just practice law, he creates space for people to feel seen, heard, and respected.
Patrick’s willingness to step outside conventional norms—whether that’s rethinking his relationship with technology or engaging in creative practices like pottery—reflects a deeper intention: to show up fully and authentically in his work. That intentionality translates directly into how he serves others.
In a profession that often feels transactional, Patrick represents a refreshing return to what people actually want in an advocate and counselor: someone real, thoughtful, and deeply human.
- Ryan M.I wish I'd met Patrick when I was an anxious junior lawyer grappling with where I fit into the legal profession as an introvert who loved legal research, writing, and creative problem-solving but didn't love fighting, arguing, or one-upping. Patrick has an extraordinary ability to see through the veneer and help us unleash our individual authenticity, making space for us to finally be our true selves in a profession that is constantly telling us to be something we are not. Patrick makes me want to "do good things" in the world, in my authentically wild, rebelliously introverted, and quietly fearless way. Every law student and lawyer should meet with Patrick for 15 minutes; he will help you unlock your true impactful self. No more "faking it till we make it" or dimming our shine.
- Heidi B.I loved being a guest on The Newfangled Lawyer because Patrick is doing something the legal profession needs more of: creating space for lawyers to think differently, show up more authentically, and build practices that reflect who they actually are. My conversation with him was thoughtful, energizing, and refreshingly human.

If you are looking for someone to help you build a law practice that actually works for your life, call Patrick Patino.
Patrick spent a full day with my firm and did something surprisingly rare: before we talked about software, workflows, automation, or efficiency, he started with a simple question: What kind of life do you want to live?
From there, we worked backward. We talked about what was working, what was not, where I was spending time I should not be spending, how responsibilities could be better delegated, and which technology tools would actually make a difference. Patrick helped us think critically about our systems from the ground up, not just as a business, but as a group of human beings trying to do meaningful work without burning ourselves out.
What impressed me most was that Patrick did not arrive with a one-size-fits-all solution. He took the time to understand me, my employees, our clients, and the values that drive our firm. His recommendations were thoughtful, practical, and tailored to the goals and ethos of our business.
Also, he brought cookies.
The legal profession has plenty of consultants who will tell you how they think you should run your practice. Patrick is different. He listens first. He asks good questions. He cares about the people behind the business. And then he helps you build systems that support the life and practice you are actually trying to create.
I cannot recommend Patrick and the Newfangled Lawyer highly enough.
